Hands-on with Apple Watch Audio Intelligence in watchOS 27.3

A double-press of the digital crown on the new Apple Watch Series 12 yields nothing unless you dive into the settings. With the release of the watchOS 27.3 developer beta, Apple has introduced Live Rewind and Siri Recap, but these tools remain strictly opt-in, requiring manual activation through the iPhone Watch app.

Live Rewind captures a transcript of the preceding 15 seconds of audio, while Siri Recap generates high-level summaries of ongoing conversations. These capabilities join two other previously released Audio Intelligence tools, though the software remains in an early testing phase. Users must navigate a specific onboarding process, including an initial microphone calibration with their paired iPhone, before the hardware can process live speech.

Apple has emphasized that these features are not passive surveillance tools. Beyond the requirement for the latest hardware—specifically the Series 12 or Ultra 4—the system demands a synchronized iOS 27.3 developer beta. Because the software is still in development, the current implementation remains subject to refinement before the final public launch. Documentation regarding data handling and privacy remains available for those concerned about how the device processes ambient audio.
