Gate Sentry Launches SoloPass to Replace Gate Codes and Kiosks

Dallas-based Gate Sentry is abandoning physical gate hardware in favor of smartphone-based entry. The company’s new SoloPass technology allows visitors to unlock gates through a device-bound digital link, effectively ending the industry's decades-long reliance on shared access codes, proximity cards, and onsite electronic kiosks.

For forty years, visitor management has been tethered to stationary equipment. Whether using simple numeric keypads or modern touchscreen callboxes, the underlying process remained unchanged: visitors were forced to interact with hardware installed at the entrance. This model created significant maintenance costs for property managers and security vulnerabilities, as access codes were frequently shared, copied, or lost.

SoloPass shifts the burden of access from the entrance to the visitor’s personal device. When a resident or administrator authorizes a visit, the system sends a unique, time-sensitive link via text or email. Upon arrival, the visitor taps a button on their smartphone to trigger the gate, requiring no app downloads or account creation. Because the pass is locked to the specific hardware of the visitor's phone, it cannot be forwarded or repurposed, providing administrators with a granular audit trail of who enters a property and when. Gate Sentry CEO Michael Rendon noted that the shift is intended to eliminate friction entirely, moving away from expensive, failure-prone installations toward a streamlined, mobile-first ecosystem for gated communities and commercial facilities.
