The 6.3 update shifts the platform toward stricter default security, including protocol parsing, enhanced credential protection, and authentication for Prometheus and OpenAPI endpoints. While currently optional, an advanced hardened security profile is included to meet rigorous regulatory requirements, with plans to make this the standard configuration in version 7.0. Chief Product Officer Benniu Ji emphasized that the release is designed to provide the predictability required for long-term enterprise operations.
To manage the complexity of diverse infrastructure, EMQ introduced Feature Gates. This allows teams to deploy either a full capability stack or an 'ESSENTIAL' configuration. The latter is optimized for edge and containerized environments, boasting an idle boot memory footprint of under 100 MB. Performance enhancements also target real-world bottlenecks, such as a new QoS 0 flow control mechanism that prevents slow consumers from destabilizing the broker during traffic spikes.
