A sophisticated AI-powered controller could act as the home’s central nervous system, orchestrating specialized devices—like robotic mowers or vacuums—based on real-time needs. LG is currently testing this middle ground with its CLOiD robot, a wheeled unit that combines smart home management with a pair of dexterous arms. By training these units on 100,000 hours of simulated tasks using Nvidia’s foundation models, LG is betting on a future where specialized hardware handles physical chores while a central brain manages the logic. The most useful home robot of the near future will likely be a focused companion, much like the upcoming Doova from Tuya, which prioritizes connectivity and assistance over the ability to perform backflips.
