Elon Musk settles fraud lawsuits over million-dollar voter sweepstakes

Two Arizona residents have reached a settlement with Elon Musk following accusations that his daily $1 million voter giveaway was a fraudulent scheme. The legal challenge centered on claims that the America PAC sweepstakes, marketed as a random lottery, was actually a controlled selection process designed to harvest voter data.

The plaintiffs alleged they were misled into signing a petition under the false pretense of entering a random drawing. During a prior hearing, America PAC representative Chris Gober admitted that recipients were not selected by chance, stating that the organization knew exactly who would be named as winners in advance. This disclosure directly contradicted public promises made by Musk when he launched the initiative in various swing states.

Beyond the Arizona litigation, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner had previously sought to halt the giveaway, branding it an illegal lottery. The plaintiffs argued that the entire campaign functioned primarily as a deceptive ploy to collect and potentially sell personal user information without providing transparency regarding data usage. While the parties have moved to settle, the specific financial terms and conditions of the agreement remain shielded from public record.
