The strategy centers on the Qinling Mountains as a strategic escape from rising summer temperatures. Mount Taibai in Baoji and the Zhuque National Forest Park in Xi'an have expanded their eco-tourism offerings to include guided forest education and outdoor recreation. These sites, alongside the gorges and streams of Shangluo’s Niubeiliang and Jinsi parks, provide a direct contrast to the arid, historical sites that typically dominate provincial itineraries.
Shaanxi Moves Beyond History to Redefine China Cool
While the Terracotta Warriors remain the primary draw for international visitors in Xi'an, the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism is pivotally rebranding the region. By integrating the high-altitude Qinling Mountains with traditional culinary rituals, the province is marketing a summer experience that balances ancient heritage with modern climate-focused travel.

Beyond geography, the campaign emphasizes a local sensory experience designed to mitigate heat. Culinary staples like liangpi—a cold noodle dish defined by vinegar and chili—and Jiangshui noodles serve as traditional thermal regulators. These, paired with regional beverages like Bingfeng soda, are being positioned as essential components of the traveler's experience. By shifting the focus from static monuments to the active, cooling lifestyle of local neighborhoods, Shaanxi aims to extend the duration of visitor stays, encouraging tourists to engage with the province’s living culture rather than just its archaeological past.
