This move deepens the strategic alignment between the two firms, specifically targeting growth initiatives across Ardian’s diverse product offerings and investor base. Wafra is executing the purchase through its Strategic Partnership funds, which specialize in acquiring stakes in leading alternative asset managers. The deal underscores a growing trend of GP stakes investing, where firms like Wafra leverage their global networks to support the expansion of institutional asset managers.
Wafra Expands Stake in Private Equity Giant Ardian
New York-based investment firm Wafra is increasing its ownership stake in Ardian, a global private investment powerhouse managing $200 billion in assets. The transaction, which builds upon a partnership established in November 2025, remains subject to regulatory approvals and is slated to close by early 2027.

Adel Alderbas, Chief Investment Officer at Wafra, cited strong conviction in the firm’s leadership and long-term trajectory as the primary drivers for the increased commitment. Since the initial 2025 investment, the partnership has already yielded early collaborative successes. For Wafra, which currently oversees approximately $30 billion in assets, this expanded position serves to further entrench its footprint in the alternative investment landscape alongside Ardian’s established market presence.
