The updated pricing structure, first reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, pushes the monthly cost for a 13-inch MacBook Air plan to $7.99, up from the previous $7.49. Although these changes have yet to appear on Apple’s official US storefront or within updated terms of service, they mirror a similar strategy deployed for iPhone plans last year.
Apple quietly nudges AppleCare Plus prices higher for Macs and iPads
A modest surcharge is hitting Apple’s protection plans, with new sign-ups for Mac and iPad coverage now costing an additional $0.50 monthly or $5 annually. While current subscribers remain insulated from the hike, the adjustment signals a broader trend of rising costs across Apple’s ecosystem following recent hardware price increases.

This move follows a wave of price adjustments announced last month affecting a wide range of hardware, including the Vision Pro, HomePod, and various Mac configurations. CEO Tim Cook previously pointed to persistent RAM shortages as a primary driver for these hikes, noting that the company’s attempts to shield consumers from component cost volatility had become unsustainable. By adjusting service plans alongside hardware, Apple appears to be further insulating its margins against these ongoing supply chain pressures.
