Coker Duo Launches In-Home Senior Care Franchise in Oak Park

After struggling to find consistent, compassionate support for a family member with dementia, local residents Muyiwa and Jennifer Coker have opened a new Seniors Helping Seniors franchise. The couple aims to provide companionship and independence to residents in Oak Park, Bloomingdale, and surrounding Illinois communities.

The Cokers bring a deep personal history to their new business. Jennifer’s background includes years of volunteer work with seniors, while Muyiwa’s upbringing in a large multigenerational household instilled a lifelong focus on leadership and service. Their decision to join the franchise network, which currently operates over 400 territories nationwide, stems from their own experience navigating the complexities of elder care. When Jennifer’s grandmother was diagnosed with dementia, the family found it difficult to secure reliable help, eventually leading to a move into a memory care facility.

Seniors Helping Seniors distinguishes itself within the home-care industry by prioritizing the hiring of active seniors to support their less-active peers. This model is intended to foster stronger, more empathetic connections between caregivers and clients. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, nearly 70% of retirees will eventually require some form of long-term care, a reality driving the rapid expansion of the brand. The new Illinois location, which marks the tenth in the state, will serve a wide territory including River Forest, Elmwood Park, Melrose Park, and Addison. Company president Namrata Yocom-Jan noted that the agency prioritizes partners who view caregiving as a calling rather than a standard career.
