Elected Officials to Join MGB Home Care Strike Rally in Somerville

A coalition of state legislators and labor supporters will gather at the MGB headquarters in Somerville this Friday, marking the third day of a week-long walkout by home care clinicians. The demonstration seeks to pressure Mass General Brigham into finalizing a first union contract that guarantees protections for regional home-based care staff.

The bargaining unit, which encompasses a diverse group of specialists including occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech language pathologists, social workers, and dieticians, launched the strike on July 8. They plan to remain on the picket line until July 15. Scheduled for 10 a.m. at 399 Revolution Drive, the rally will feature State Representative Mike Connolly and Somerville City Councilor Ben Ewen-Campen alongside members of SEIU 32BJ.

Simultaneously, labor tensions remain high at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Following the conclusion of a separate nurses' strike on the morning of July 9, hospital administration blocked staff from returning to their clinical duties. MGB has enforced a lockout effective until 6:59 a.m. on July 13, prompting around-the-clock picketing by nurses outside the main facility. Despite the ongoing disputes, representatives for the Massachusetts Nurses Association maintain that both clinicians and nurses are prepared to return to the negotiating table immediately to reach a resolution.
