Corinex Releases Grid Intelligence Node to Map Low-Voltage Networks

Vancouver-based Corinex has introduced the Grid Intelligence Node, a hardware solution designed to provide near-real-time monitoring for low-voltage power feeders. By integrating high-precision measurement with existing broadband powerline communication infrastructure, the device allows distribution system operators to identify grid constraints and verify the effectiveness of their operational interventions.

The new hardware, known as GIN, functions as a grid-truth layer that tracks network conditions across secondary substations and street cabinets. It captures three-phase voltage and current data with an RMS error of 0.5% or less, while monitoring power quality up to the 51st harmonic. These technical capabilities enable utilities to detect phase imbalances, voltage sags, and swells as they occur rather than relying on delayed meter data or static load profiles.

Sam Shi, Chief Technology Officer at Corinex, noted that the rapid rise in electrification has created a visibility gap in how local grids handle new demands from electric vehicles and heat pumps. By feeding these field measurements directly into the Corinex Plexigrid Intelligence platform, the device helps utilities build more accurate digital twins of their physical assets. This integration allows operators to assess available capacity and decide whether to address congestion through grid flexibility or physical infrastructure upgrades without needing to deploy separate communication networks.
