Mill Rock Packaging Material Handlers Unanimously Join Teamsters

Every material handler at the Mill Rock Packaging facility in Tukwila, Washington, has cast a unanimous vote to join Teamsters Local 117. The decision effectively integrates the entire department into the existing bargaining unit, which already represents the site's press operators, plate makers, and floor support staff.

The drive for unionization centered on demands for improved workplace protections, higher wages, and more comprehensive health and retirement benefits. For the employees involved, the move represents a shift toward collective bargaining power aimed at securing a formal contract that addresses long-standing compensation and safety concerns.

Paul Dascher, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 117, noted that the union is now preparing to work with the group to formalize their specific demands for upcoming negotiations. Curtiss Jackson, a material handler at the facility, emphasized that the move is expected to ensure fairer treatment across the department. Teamsters Local 117 currently represents 19,000 workers throughout Washington state across diverse public and private sector industries.
