The program, which marks the second university residency sponsorship for The Farmer's Dog, aims to address the scarcity of advanced clinical training in the field. Led by faculty mentors Jackie Parr and Joseph Bartges, the residency combines clinical education with research to prepare veterinarians for board certification through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. The funding allows the university to support three residents simultaneously for the first time.
The Farmer's Dog Funds Veterinary Nutrition Residency at UGA
A shortage of specialized training programs in clinical nutrition has prompted a new partnership between The Farmer's Dog and the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. The pet food company is funding a three-year residency position to accelerate the development of board-certified veterinary nutritionists.
Jonathan Regev, co-founder and CEO of The Farmer's Dog, stated that the investment is intended to deepen the understanding of how minimally processed diets influence canine longevity. This initiative follows the company's recent research suggesting that its food products contribute to improved metabolic health markers in dogs. Dr. Lisa K. Nolan, Dean of the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine, noted that the sponsorship supports the growth of evidence-based nutritional care, which remains a critical component of modern veterinary medicine.
