This policy shift applies to both new purchasers and existing owners of the brand’s hardware. The change removes a significant friction point for hobbyists who previously hit daily quotas while monitoring their backyard feeders. By opening the recognition database, the company pivots its revenue model toward premium data rather than basic functionality.
Birdfy removes daily limits on smart feeder species identification
Birdfy users can now identify an unlimited number of avian visitors without paying for a subscription. The company announced that its smart feeders, which previously capped free AI recognitions at 10 per day, now provide instant species identification for more than 6,000 birds the moment they land to feed.

Advanced features remain gated behind the Birdfy Membership Plus and Pro tiers. Users willing to pay $79.99 or $149.99 annually retain access to deeper analytics, including estimates on a bird's sex, age category, and general health status. This adjustment positions the hardware as a more accessible entry point for birdwatching enthusiasts.
