Apple refreshes 14-inch MacBook Pro with 2nm M6 chip

Starting at $1,999, Apple’s latest 14-inch MacBook Pro arrives with the M6 processor, the company’s first 2nm silicon. While the industrial design remains identical to previous iterations, the internal architecture shift promises a 1.2x boost in multithreaded performance and enhanced on-device artificial intelligence capabilities.

The new 14-inch model retains the familiar footprint of its predecessors, mirroring the port layout and hardware features established in recent years. Users will find three Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, a MagSafe 3 connector, an HDMI port, and an SDXC memory card slot. Despite the exterior consistency, the internal transition to the M6 chip marks a significant leap in hardware specifications. The processor integrates a 12-core CPU, stepping up from the 10-core configuration found in the M5, and introduces a Dual 16-core Neural Engine alongside an upgraded 12-core GPU.

Preorders for the refreshed laptop open on October 28th, with units scheduled to reach customers starting November 6th. The base configuration includes 16GB of memory, maintaining the entry-level pricing structure established by the previous generation. Apple claims the 2nm fabrication process not only drives the performance gains but also improves overall power efficiency, aiming to balance demanding computational tasks with battery longevity.
