iPhone Duo Gains Apple Pencil Support in iOS 27.2 Update

Apple has officially expanded the capabilities of the iPhone Duo with the release of iOS 27.2, finally enabling Apple Pencil integration for the foldable device. Alongside this hardware-focused update, the company introduced an Edge Light feature designed to improve illumination during video calls on the 7.6-inch inner display.

The latest software package refines the user experience across the Duo’s dual-screen setup, which spans the primary inner display and the 5.4-inch outer panel. While major applications like Netflix and Microsoft Outlook have already optimized their interfaces for this hardware, the update pushes for broader ecosystem consistency. Siri AI functionality also sees a significant boost, gaining support for additional languages including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, while enabling predictive actions within the Messages app.

Beyond core functionality, Apple is integrating Google’s SynthID AI watermark into Photos and Image Playground. The update also brings minor interface shifts: the Apple Podcasts app replaces the traditional “Up Next” queue with a split “New Episodes” and “Continue Playing” layout, and the Apple Music logo receives a visual refresh. FaceTime users can now utilize dual capture, allowing simultaneous streaming from both front and rear cameras. This rollout coincides with wider updates across the Apple ecosystem, including macOS 27.2 Golden Gate, watchOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, and tvOS 27.2.
