The transition creates a localized headache for mobile software, as varying provincial mandates often outpace standard time-tracking protocols. Google suggests a two-step recovery for users facing discrepancies: install all pending manufacturer and system updates, then perform a device restart. This should force the OS to pull the latest regional time data.
Google Urges Android Updates as Canada Shifts Daylight Saving Rules
As the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Manitoba cement a permanent shift to daylight saving time, Google is bracing for technical friction. The company is directing Android users to manually intervene if their devices fail to synchronize with the new regional time zone laws taking effect November 1.

Should the automated system remain out of sync, Google recommends forcing location-based detection through the “Date and Time” menu in Android settings by toggling the “Use location for time zone” feature. For users in regions where these automated paths fail, manual configuration remains the final safeguard. By disabling automatic detection, users can select a time zone that aligns with their specific offset. While this localized implementation poses challenges, the industry anticipates a more unified experience should the United States follow through on proposals to adopt permanent daylight saving time nationwide.
