The cooling financial results arrive alongside a 2.1 percent decline in customer deliveries compared to the same period in 2025. This downturn was largely anticipated following the expiration of the $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit last September. Elon Musk previously warned investors to brace for rough quarters, citing these shifting incentives and broader macroeconomic headwinds as primary obstacles to growth.
Tesla Q3 revenue plateaus despite Roadster hype
Tesla reported $28 billion in revenue for the third quarter of 2026, a flat performance that mirrors the previous year's figures. While the result narrowly edged past Wall Street expectations of $27.9 billion, the company’s net income slipped 4 percent to $1.7 billion as sales momentum stalled.

Amidst the stagnation, attention has pivoted toward a potential merger between Tesla and SpaceX. Musk confirmed that both companies have established special committees to evaluate the feasibility of such a deal. Although he characterized the merger as a logical move, he maintained he would recuse himself from the negotiations. The quarter also featured the long-awaited re-reveal of the next-generation Tesla Roadster, an attempt to generate brand excitement nine years after its initial announcement.
