Documentary Retraces the Long March 90 Years After the Red Army Victory

Marking the 90th anniversary of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army victory, the documentary The Long March: A Road Without End premieres online. The seven-episode series follows two observers as they traverse the original route, attempting to bridge historical memory with the realities of modern China.

Guided by the China International Communications Group, the project features American professor William N. Brown and European media professional Peng Wanglong. Over two months, the pair trekked through Jiangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Ningxia, Shaanxi, and Henan. Their journey serves as a physical retracing of the historical path while documenting contemporary development and the struggles of what the producers term the new Long March.

The production moves beyond traditional historical recounting by utilizing seven symbolic motifs: river, lamp, bridge, road, mountain, tree, and flower. These images form a spiritual map intended to make the historical narrative accessible to international and younger audiences. By focusing on themes of resilience and cooperation, the filmmakers aim to translate the historical significance of the journey into a shared human experience, detailing how these values influence the nation's current trajectory.
