Coastal Financial Faces Class Action Over CCBX Segment Loan Losses

A 43 percent single-day stock collapse has triggered a securities class action lawsuit against Coastal Financial Corporation. Filed by Hagens Berman, the litigation targets alleged misrepresentations regarding the company’s risk management and credit quality within its core Banking-as-a-Service segment during a period of rapid expansion.

Investors who acquired Coastal Financial common stock between October 28, 2024, and July 29, 2026, are now being sought as lead plaintiffs. The complaint centers on the contention that Coastal repeatedly assured shareholders of its disciplined growth and effective risk oversight, even as a specific partner portfolio—comprising roughly $500 million in loans—suffered material deterioration. According to the filing, the company failed to disclose that its internal controls were insufficient to account for these risks.

The facade of stability fractured on July 30, 2026, when the firm reported a $42.1 million net loss. This shortfall was primarily driven by $68.8 million in pre-tax charges linked to a single partner relationship, an announcement compounded by the sudden departure of the company’s Chief Financial Officer. Shares of CCB plummeted from $70.66 to $39.91 in response, wiping out significant market value in a single trading session.

Reed Kathrein, the Hagens Berman partner heading the investigation, is now scrutinizing when Coastal executives first identified the partner-specific issues and whether those findings were intentionally obscured from the public. The firm is currently soliciting information from both affected investors and potential whistleblowers who may hold non-public details regarding the company’s underwriting or internal reporting practices. The deadline for investors to apply as lead plaintiffs is December 1, 2026.
