The preliminary results, selected as a Top Rated Oral Presentation, indicate that the radiopharmaceutical candidate 177Lu-AKIR001 can be administered repeatedly without triggering dose-limiting toxicities. Patients involved in the trial experienced only grade 1–2 adverse events, while quantitative imaging confirmed the drug successfully clears from healthy blood and tissues while remaining concentrated in tumor sites. Researchers observed a direct correlation between CD44v6 expression levels and absorbed tumor doses, suggesting that immunohistochemistry could serve as a critical diagnostic tool for selecting future candidates for this therapy.
Akiram Therapeutics Reports Positive Early Data for CD44v6 Radiotherapy
Swedish biotech firm Akiram Therapeutics is set to unveil initial clinical data from its Phase I trial of AKIR001 at the EANM 2026 Congress in Vienna. The study, which targets CD44v6-positive solid tumors, reports a clean safety profile and promising tumor retention in the first eight patients treated at Karolinska University Hospital.

CEO Marika Nestor noted that the ability to provide repeat treatments marks a significant milestone for the program's progression. Beyond the clinical trial data, Akiram Therapeutics will also present preclinical findings at the same congress, exploring the drug's utility in bladder cancer through a derived antibody format. Joachim Nilsson is scheduled to present the clinical trial outcomes on October 18, followed by a second presentation by Iris Adriana Maria Lodewijk on October 20.
