The Leela and Ara Lumière Bring Social Advocacy to Milan Fashion Week

The partnership highlights The Phoenix Circle, an initiative founded by Kulsum Shadab Wahab that empowers survivors of acid and burn attacks through creative expression.

This year’s showcase centered on a project titled PASSPORT, developed in collaboration with contemporary artist Raghava KK. By integrating the perspectives of the women within The Phoenix Circle with Raghava’s artistic vision, the presentation moved beyond traditional runway aesthetics to facilitate a dialogue on identity and resilience. The collaboration positions fashion as a vehicle for social change, aiming to shift public perception from narratives of victimhood to those of individual agency and creative potential.

Preeti Makhija, General Manager of The Leela Palace New Delhi, emphasized that the brand views luxury as an extension of cultural responsibility rather than mere hospitality. For Kulsum Shadab Wahab, the Milanese platform serves as a vital conduit for ensuring these stories of strength reach an international audience. As The Leela marks four decades in the luxury sector, the initiative underscores a strategic pivot toward using its global footprint to amplify social advocacy alongside its portfolio of high-end properties.
