Markel Targets US Mid-Market with New Energy Property Insurance Line

Markel Insurance has launched its Chemical, Oil & Gas related Energy Property (CORE) offering, targeting small to midsize US businesses with specialized coverage. The new product line provides up to $50 million in limits for property damage and business interruption, supported by the appointments of Candice Walker and Michael McClain.

The CORE offering addresses a broad spectrum of onshore energy risks, ranging from industrial organic chemicals and petrochemicals to natural gas transmission and storage. Clients can secure coverage for property damage, business interruption, and equipment breakdown, with specific protection against natural catastrophes such as earthquakes, windstorms, and floods. Policies are available on both a primary and excess-of-loss basis, aiming to provide stability for companies navigating volatile operational landscapes.

Candice Walker, who has been with Markel since 2015, will spearhead the initiative. With over two decades of property insurance experience, she is tasked with integrating this new offering into Markel’s existing midstream and downstream underwriting frameworks. Supporting this expansion is Michael McClain, who joins as Senior Underwriter. Formerly a technical operations manager at Tomorrow RNG, McClain brings extensive background in managing large-scale infrastructure projects and asset development, which the firm expects will enhance its technical underwriting capacity for the US market.
