The CORE offering addresses a broad spectrum of onshore energy-adjacent risks, providing tailored protection for property damage, business interruption, and equipment breakdown. The policy includes coverage for natural catastrophe exposures such as windstorms, earthquakes, and flooding. It is available on both a primary and excess-of-loss basis, aiming to stabilize the risk management landscape for US-domiciled operators facing volatile economic and operational conditions.
Markel Launches Specialized Energy Property Insurance for US Mid-Market
Markel Insurance is expanding its US energy portfolio with the launch of a dedicated property offering for small to midsize businesses. The new Chemical, Oil & Gas related Energy Property (CORE) product provides up to $50 million in coverage, targeting onshore risks ranging from natural gas transmission to petrochemical processing.

Candice Walker, who joined Markel in 2015, will oversee the new offering. She brings over two decades of insurance experience to the role and will coordinate with existing midstream and downstream underwriting teams to manage the portfolio. Joining her is Michael McClain, appointed as Senior Underwriter for Energy. McClain transitions to the insurance sector from his previous role as Manager of Technical Operations at Tomorrow RNG, a subsidiary of Enbridge. His background in managing multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects and asset development is intended to provide the technical depth required to assess complex industrial risks within the US energy market.
