The transition marks a departure from traditional infrastructure-heavy utility models, which the company claims are increasingly inefficient and costly for consumers. By integrating devices such as electric vehicles, solar arrays, and energy storage systems into a single, coordinated framework, Everyday Electric plans to optimize existing grid capacity rather than relying solely on new construction. CEO Ben Brown stated that the company’s objective is to build a system where grid reliability and household affordability move in tandem.
Renew Home Rebrands to Everyday Electric, Acquires Smartcar
Rising electricity demand and grid strain have prompted Renew Home to pivot, rebranding as Everyday Electric and expanding its focus from smart thermostats to a comprehensive, whole-home energy management platform. The company now aims to save households $5 billion over the next five years through its virtual power plant technology.

To accelerate this expansion beyond HVAC systems, the company has acquired Smartcar, a connected-vehicle platform. This integration allows Everyday Electric to manage electric vehicle charging directly, bypassing the need for additional hardware. With a current portfolio of 6 GW of capacity, the firm is positioning its 'Everyday VPP' as a scalable alternative to conventional demand response programs, offering utility partners hyper-local load shaping and real-time forecasting. The company, founded in 2024 by former Google Nest and AI Lab leaders, currently serves as the largest residential virtual power plant operator in the United States.
