Dr. Oregonin FDA Approval Marks North American Debut for OLTIS DENTAL-X

A 1974 discovery at Oregon State University has returned to the American market in a new form, as Seoul-based Dr. Oregonin Inc. secured FDA registration for its OLTIS DENTAL-X toothpaste. The product utilizes oregonin, a compound extracted from alder trees that bridges Northwest botanical history with modern South Korean pharmacognosy.

The regulatory clearance follows 27 years of research led by Professor Sun Eun Choi at Kangwon National University. His team focused on the biological efficacy of oregonin, a polyphenolic diarylheptanoid xyloside first identified in the Pacific Northwest’s Red Alder. Choi’s research confirmed that the compound found in the native Korean alder (Alnus japonica) is chemically identical to the version documented in American Red Alder decades ago.

This development marks the commercial culmination of a long-standing scientific inquiry into traditional forest-based hygiene. Having already secured the Korean National New Excellent Technology certification and approval from the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the company is now transitioning toward retail partnerships. Dr. Oregonin Inc. aims to leverage this validated botanical profile to establish a presence within North American oral-care channels.
