Sharpa Debuts D01 Robot and Haptic Hardware at IROS 2026

At the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems in Pittsburgh, robotics firm Sharpa unveiled a new suite of hardware designed to bridge the gap between industrial automation and human-centric dexterity, headlined by the D01 integrated robot and the AE01 haptic exoskeleton glove.

The D01 robot serves as the flagship for Sharpa’s push into dexterous manipulation. It integrates seven-degree-of-freedom arms with whole-body electronic skin, achieving a 1:1 arm payload-to-weight ratio. Engineered for speed and precision, the unit reaches end-effector speeds of 10.5 meters per second with a repeatability of 0.2 millimeters. The inclusion of electronic skin allows the machine to detect physical contact across its entire frame at a sampling rate of 100 Hz, facilitating safer interaction with environments originally built for people.

Complementing the robot is the W02 dexterous hand, a 750-gram modular unit featuring 21 active degrees of freedom. It utilizes a proprietary Dynamic Tactile Array at the fingertips, capable of sensing forces as minute as 5 millinewtons. This sensitivity, combined with an IP54-rated exterior, allows the hand to manipulate delicate objects like chopsticks while resisting dust and water. To streamline the training of these systems, Sharpa introduced the AE01 data glove. This 22-degree-of-freedom exoskeleton captures human motion for teleoperation and provides 256 levels of vibrotactile feedback to the user, allowing for real-time control without the need for additional calibration. The full lineup remains on display at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center through September 30, 2026.
