The expansion, scheduled to begin in 2027, will unfold in two distinct phases. Initially, the plant will integrate proprietary MIRS modular robotic systems to increase output, followed by the construction of a fully automated facility dedicated to premium products. By 2033, the site is expected to generate approximately 1,000 new jobs while producing advanced solutions, including the firm's Cyber Tyre technology. Pirelli confirmed that the capital expenditure remains consistent with previous forecasts and will not impact existing 2026 financial targets.
Pirelli to Invest €1 Billion in US Expansion Amid Governance Shakeup
Pirelli’s board has authorized a €1 billion investment to scale up its Rome, Georgia facility, aiming for an annual production of 6 million tires by 2033. The move, intended to bolster the company’s local-for-local strategy in the U.S. market, passed despite opposition from three board members representing Chinese shareholders.

Simultaneously, the company is undergoing a significant leadership transition. The board has eliminated the Corporate General Management function, resulting in the departure of Francesco Tanzi. While Tanzi will step down from his executive role by December 31, 2026, he will remain under a two-year consultancy agreement and a non-compete covenant to protect the group’s industrial know-how. Furthermore, following a declaration of control by Marco Tronchetti Provera & C. S.p.A., the board has initiated a review of its governance framework to align with market transparency standards while maintaining managerial autonomy.
