Peloton Targets Home Gyms With Folding Tread Flex

A 50 percent reduction in floor space is the primary selling point of Peloton’s new $2,195 Tread Flex. Unveiled at a New York City event, the machine marks a strategic pivot toward space-conscious design, allowing users to fold the deck upright and maneuver the unit on integrated caster wheels.

Chief product officer Nick Caldwell emphasized that the design directly addresses user demand for equipment that is easier to stow. When fully folded, the Flex occupies less floor space than the company’s own Bike Plus. To ensure stability, the machine features a lockable wheel system and a two-cylinder release mechanism that lowers the deck automatically over 25 seconds. Unlike some high-end fitness hardware, the Flex avoids sensor-based safety features, relying instead on a standard passcode lock.

Performance metrics for the new treadmill include a motor output measured at approximately 70 decibels, positioning it as a quieter option compared to previous iterations. While the deck length is shorter than standard professional models, it remains sufficient for most users, though those with longer strides may find the dimensions restrictive. By introducing the Flex, Peloton aims to capture a segment of the market that prioritizes compact utility without sacrificing the core functionality of its existing treadmill lineup.
