The See.d platform serves as the technical backbone for Tethis’ liquid biopsy workflow, enabling the simultaneous generation of plasma for cfDNA analysis and cytology slides from a single blood sample. By moving the engineering know-how and intellectual property in-house, Tethis aims to streamline development cycles and accelerate commercial adoption. The system is currently utilized in clinical and research environments, including the European Institute of Oncology, Weill Cornell Medicine, and ETH Zurich.
Tethis Acquires See.d Unit in Manufacturing Shake-up
Tethis S.p.A. has finalized the acquisition of the See.d software and engineering business unit from MACS S.r.l., consolidating control over its liquid biopsy technology. The deal includes a long-term manufacturing agreement with Everex S.r.l. to scale production of the automated blood processing platform for international research markets.
Everex, an Italian specialist in in-vitro diagnostic instrumentation, will manage the industrialization and future production scale-up of the platform. Holger Neecke, CEO of Tethis, described the acquisition as a strategic move to secure the platform’s core components. MACS CEO Andrea Eugeni noted that the transfer ensures the continuity of the project, which was originally developed through a collaborative effort between the two firms. The See.d system remains designated for research use only, supporting advanced studies into circulating tumor cells and immune cell characterization.
