MetaOptics secures US$10 million to onshore metalens production

Singapore-based semiconductor optics firm MetaOptics has secured a US$10 million investment facility from Los Angeles-based White Lion Capital. This deal marks the company’s first foray into U.S. institutional backing, providing the capital necessary to establish a domestic 12-inch photolithography fabrication line for mass-producing metalenses.

The investment, structured through a warrant deed, allows MetaOptics to issue up to 40 million new shares to White Lion Capital. This expansion comes one year after the company’s listing on the Singapore Exchange’s Catalist board and signals a strategic pivot toward its primary customer base in the United States. By moving front-end fabrication closer to its clients, the company aims to streamline the manufacturing process for consumer electronics, AR/VR wearables, and automotive sensing components.

Funding will specifically support the deployment of DUV immersion photolithography equipment, enabling the transition from pilot projects to large-scale production on glass substrates. Executive Chairman Thng Chong Kim noted that the move is essential for keeping pace with U.S.-based partners developing optical interconnects for AI data centers. Gabriel Gumbiner, Senior Associate at White Lion, cited the company’s ability to mass-produce glass-based metalenses as a key driver for the firm’s first investment in an SGX-listed entity.
