XKL Targets GPU Idle Time with Sub-5us Optical Interconnects
Redmond-based XKL is rolling out specialized MediaLight optical transport systems designed to eliminate packet jitter in distributed AI clusters. By bypassing traditional routing overhead, the 1RU hardware achieves sub-5us latency, a critical threshold for maintaining synchronization across high-performance computing sites without forcing expensive GPUs into idle states.

The hardware is built for high-density environments, supporting both 100G QSFP28 and 400G QSFP-DD configurations. By integrating directly into existing management tools via standard CLI and MIB, the systems avoid the need for proprietary software layers. According to Casey Inman, Director of Sales & Marketing at XKL, the goal is to prevent the latency penalties that currently plague standard routing architectures, ensuring regional compute clusters operate at peak capacity. The units are shipping now for immediate deployment in data center and HPC environments.
