The project focuses on enhancing the efficiency of the terminal's intermodal division, which serves as a critical last-mile connection for the Valley of Mexico. Rather than overhauling the existing in-house Terminal Operating System, the new software will function as an optimization layer. It will process data from the terminal's fleet—including eight RTG cranes, four reach stackers, and 14 terminal tractors—to provide real-time decision support for container storage and equipment deployment.
Ferrovalle Taps INFORM to Automate Mexico City Rail Hub
Handling 550,000 TEUs annually, Ferrovalle is upgrading its Mexico City inland terminal with an AI-driven Smart Yard initiative. By integrating INFORM’s Syncrotess Optimization Plus software, the rail freight hub aims to replace manual planning with automated equipment and train load management, targeting a full operational go-live by June 2027.
Managing operations within a complex regulatory framework remains a primary challenge. The system must navigate the distinct requirements of customs-cleared and customs-controlled yards, ensuring only verified cargo is released for rail loading. By automating weight verification via the terminal's Equipment Control System, the facility expects to reduce transit bottlenecks. According to Francisco Fabila, Managing Director of Ferrovalle, the goal is to shift from manual, experience-based dispatching to a model where every container and vehicle has digital visibility, ultimately improving service predictability for customers.
