Unlike many conventional products, the items are free from superabsorbent polymers and undergo rigorous testing to ensure they are clear of PFAS chemicals, meeting the OEKO-TEX Standard 100.
Confitex Technology Claims Global Hygiene Innovation Awards
Auckland-based Confitex Technology has become the first company to secure both the INDEX Award and the Hygienix Innovation Award. By engineering washable nonwoven pads that eliminate the need for petroleum-based superabsorbent polymers, the firm is challenging the dominance of single-use products in a global market worth over 123 billion dollars.
Founder and CEO Frantisek Riha-Scott frames this development as a structural shift for the industry, comparable to the transition from single-use plastic bags to reusable models. With the reusable hygiene sector currently accounting for less than 15 percent of the market but growing at a CAGR of 6.89 percent, the company is now scaling through partnerships with major FMCG players and global retailers. The EDANA jury noted that by making nonwovens laundry-compatible, Confitex is opening a new pathway for suppliers to enter a space previously dominated by traditional textiles, aligning with tightening EU regulations against single-use plastics.
