Horizon Organic Honors Next Generation of Dairy Farmers

The initiative addresses a stark demographic reality in American agriculture, where nearly 1.3 million farmers have reached retirement age while fewer than 300,000 remain under 35. By fostering long-term relationships—over a quarter of their partners have worked with the brand for at least a decade—Horizon aims to stabilize the supply chain by supporting the people behind the production. This year, the HOPE Scholarship program awarded funds to four students pursuing careers in sustainable agriculture and large-animal veterinary science, bringing the 19-year total to more than $300,000.

Beyond student support, the company recognized a diverse group of producers for their contributions to community and innovation. Notable recipients include the Moreda family of Petaluma, California, named Farm Partner of the Year, and Jerry Clapper of Laceyville, Pennsylvania, who received the Farmer Legacy Award. These accolades coincide with the company’s sponsorship of Organic Week in Washington, D.C., and the upcoming Farm Aid 2026 festival in Virginia Beach. CEO Tyler Holm noted that these investments are intended to keep family-run farms viable, emphasizing that the health of the entire food system depends on the success of these individual operations.
