Compass Group Marks Ninth Annual Chef Appreciation Week

Across 30 countries and a vast network of hospitals, stadiums, and universities, Compass Group is turning its focus to the people behind the plates. The company is currently celebrating Chef Appreciation Week, formally recognizing the contributions of more than 55,000 chefs and culinarians who prepare 14 million meals daily in the U.S.

Now in its ninth year, the event has evolved from a local internal initiative into a global acknowledgment of culinary labor. The company’s leadership emphasizes that the role of these professionals extends well beyond food preparation, encompassing team management and the advancement of industry hospitality standards. Chris Ivens-Brown, Chief Culinary Officer for Compass Group North America, noted that the scale of the operation—serving millions of people in diverse settings—ultimately relies on the individual care brought to each meal.

Beyond ceremonial recognition, the organization is attempting to address long-term industry sustainability through structured mentorship. Initiatives such as the Women in Culinary Showcase and the Navigate Foundation apprenticeship program focus on training underserved youth and fostering female leadership. These efforts are supported by the North American Culinary Council, a chef-led body tasked with scaling best practices in sustainability and procurement across the company’s extensive footprint.
