The U.S. Department of Energy has finalized a loan of up to $1.9 billion to support the reactivation of the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Iowa. This federal backing aims to restore the state’s only nuclear facility, targeting a return to service by early 2029 to meet rising regional power demand.
Regulatory progress remains a core focus for the company. Following a June authorization from the Iowa Utilities Commission, NextEra Energy continues to work through a series of inspections and licensing requirements under the oversight of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy James P. Danly framed the development as a critical component of the administration's broader push to increase baseload generation and reindustrialize the domestic energy sector.
