Current identity verification protocols are already testing user patience, with 46% of consumers admitting they frequently abandon transactions due to excessive complexity. When looking toward the EUDI Wallet, 40% of participants identified fraud protection as their top priority, while nearly a third demand greater transparency regarding how their personal data is utilized. These figures highlight a shift in consumer expectations where security outweighs the desire for speed.
European Consumers Wary of Upcoming EUDI Wallet Launch
With the EUDI Wallet set for a December 2026 rollout, a new survey from IDnow reveals a significant trust gap among European users. While awareness remains low, 2,000 respondents in France and Germany suggest that adoption hinges less on convenience and more on verifiable security and granular data control.

The appeal of the EUDI Wallet lies in its potential for selective disclosure, with 63% of respondents expressing interest in sharing only necessary information—such as age verification—rather than full identity profiles. Despite this, habits are slow to change. Only 14% of consumers currently favor digital wallets for banking, while a quarter still prefer traditional in-person verification. Philippe Morel, CEO of IDnow, noted that while citizens recognize the rising risks of identity fraud, the market remains unconvinced that the new wallet is the definitive answer. Institutions must prepare for a fragmented transition where they offer multiple verification paths to accommodate varying levels of user comfort.
