Clover Biopharmaceuticals has reported positive clinical results from its Australian Phase 2 trial of combination vaccine candidates targeting RSV, hMPV, and PIV3. The study, involving 420 older adults, demonstrated robust immune responses and a favorable safety profile, suggesting the potential to restore protection in patients previously vaccinated against RSV.
During the study period, which coincided with an active respiratory virus outbreak in Australia, participants receiving the vaccines showed a 62% lower rate of reported respiratory tract infections compared to those in the placebo group. The vaccines were well-tolerated, with participants reporting only mild, transient side effects such as fatigue and injection site pain. Alongside the clinical findings, the company successfully completed a 2,000L commercial-scale production run of the vaccine components, a milestone that executives state significantly de-risks the path toward late-stage development and future market entry.
