Aeotec Unveils Smart Home Hub 2 Without Z-Wave Support
At the IFA tech show, Aeotec introduced the Smart Home Hub 2, marking a major shift for the Samsung-partnered SmartThings ecosystem. The new hardware doubles the performance of its predecessor and embraces the Matter standard, yet it conspicuously omits the Z-Wave radio that defined previous generations of the platform.
Users relying on Z-Wave must currently remain with the existing SmartThings V3 hub. While Aeotec has confirmed a final production run for the V3 model to maintain inventory, the company intends to discontinue the legacy device by the end of 2026. This transition signals a broader industry pivot toward Matter as the primary interoperability standard for residential automation.
