Archdiocese of Newark Announces Fall Cemetery Open House Schedule

Families across Northern New Jersey can explore burial and cremation options during a series of open house weekends hosted by the Archdiocese of Newark this fall. Running from September 12 through November 8, the events offer site tours and financial planning assistance at six regional cemetery and mausoleum locations.

Memorial Planning Advisors will be available at each site to guide visitors through pre-planning arrangements, including traditional in-ground burials and cremation niche selections. During these weekend events, the organization is offering 0% interest financing for a 48-month period. No appointments or prior obligations are required for those wishing to tour the grounds or consult with staff.

The series highlights recent aesthetic and spiritual additions to the facilities, such as the 16-foot marble Rondanini Pietà sculpture at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover and the Chapel Mausoleum of the Resurrection, which features intricate mosaic art and restored stained glass. According to Joseph Heckel, Executive Director of Catholic Cemeteries, these gatherings provide an opportunity for families to finalize arrangements during the 2026 Special Jubilee Year of Saint Francis, potentially easing the decision-making burden for loved ones in the future.
