The facility marks a strategic pivot toward localizing supply chains for renewable infrastructure. Sungrow has committed to providing 4 GWh of storage systems for the Minya project, developed alongside Norwegian firm Scatec. This investment follows the company’s recent involvement in the Abydos Phase II solar-plus-storage site in Aswan, which features 1.2 GW of PV capacity and 720 MWh of storage. Once complete, Abydos will stand as Africa's largest integrated project of its kind.
Sungrow to Open 10 GWh Energy Storage Plant in Egypt
A new manufacturing facility in the Suez Canal Economic Zone will anchor Egypt’s push into large-scale battery production. With a planned annual capacity of 10 GWh, the plant is slated to begin operations in June 2027, serving as a primary supplier for the government-backed Sustainable Energy Valley project in Minya.
Thompson Meng, Vice President of Sungrow, stated that the move aims to increase delivery efficiency and responsiveness for the Middle East and African markets. Beyond hardware, the company intends to integrate local supply chain partners and initiate talent development programs. These efforts are designed to position Egypt as a central hub for renewable technology across the continent, moving beyond simple equipment delivery to long-term industrial collaboration.
