PenFed Foundation Raises $1.2 Million for Veterans at Golf Classic

The 23rd annual Military Heroes Golf Classic, held August 31, secured over $1.2 million in funding for the PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes. The event drew key supporters to bolster the nonprofit’s mission of assisting veterans and military families as they navigate the often-challenging transition from active service to civilian life.

Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Bradford J. "B.J." Shwedo, president of the organization, credited the success of the fundraiser to the consistent dedication of partners who ensure the Foundation can provide meaningful opportunities for those who have served. The event served as a focal point for the Foundation’s broader efforts, which have distributed more than $55 million in financial support to service members and their families since the nonprofit’s inception in 2001.

Beyond the tournament, the Foundation honored board member Ed Cody for his 25 years of service. PenFed Credit Union CEO James Schenck recognized Cody’s tenure, noting that his leadership influenced major initiatives including the Veteran Entrepreneur Program, the Afghan Rescue and Resettlement Program, and the Defender's Lodge. Cody’s background, spanning his time as an Army lieutenant through 35 years of federal service, remains a cornerstone of the Foundation's advocacy for wounded and ill service members.
