Dell Targets Students With Colorful 14S Laptop

Linen, dusty rose, washed denim, and velvet green: Dell is abandoning its muted aesthetic for the new 14S laptop, a machine unveiled at IFA 2026 designed to capture the student market while undercutting the premium pricing of the company’s flagship XPS 13 series.

Positioned as a more accessible alternative to the XPS 13, the 14S starts with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. While it lacks the extreme portability of its higher-end sibling, it compensates with practical connectivity. Users get two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, an HDMI 1.4 output, and—notably absent on the XPS—a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack.

Performance and display specs remain entry-level to mid-range. Buyers can configure the device with up to 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. The screen options include a standard 300-nit 1920 x 1200 LCD at 60Hz or a more fluid 450-nit 2880 x 1800 panel running at 120Hz.
