Firefox Brings Native Ad Blocking to iOS

Mozilla has officially integrated ad blocking into its iOS browser, bypassing the need for third-party extensions. By leveraging Apple’s WebKit Content Blocker technology alongside the EasyList filter, the update aims to strip away invasive tracking and ads, effectively lowering data consumption and cleaning up the mobile web experience for users.

The feature remains disabled by default to ensure user control. Once activated via the settings menu under browsing preferences, the tool intercepts most third-party trackers and advertisements before they render. Users can also toggle protection mid-session directly from the site menu, offering a granular approach to browsing privacy.

Despite these improvements, the browser will not eliminate every advertisement. Content served directly by websites, search engine results, and sponsored shortcuts within the Firefox interface will remain visible. This update positions Firefox to compete more effectively with browsers like Brave, Vivaldi, and Opera, which have offered native blocking capabilities on Apple’s mobile platform for some time.
