Brain Aneurysm Foundation Awards $650,000 to Fuel Scientific Research

One in every 50 Americans currently lives with an unruptured brain aneurysm, a statistic driving the Brain Aneurysm Foundation’s push for expanded clinical research this September. As the organization marks National Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month, it has committed a record $650,000 to support 18 diverse medical projects.

The funding announcement arrives ahead of the 20th Annual Research Grant Symposium in Louisville, Kentucky, scheduled for September 17. The grants target a wide spectrum of investigative work, ranging from artificial intelligence applications and advanced imaging to new diagnostic strategies. Since 2007, the foundation has funneled over $7 million into the field, often acting as a bridge for early-stage studies that later secure larger federal backing from the National Institutes of Health.

Executive Director Christine Buckley emphasized that the initiative aims to translate laboratory breakthroughs into tangible improvements for patient outcomes. Beyond the scientific symposium, the foundation has organized a series of awareness events, including community runs in cities like Philadelphia, Chicago, and New York, alongside the illumination of major landmarks to highlight the risks of rupture. With approximately 30,000 Americans suffering a rupture annually—and 70 percent of survivors facing long-term neurological challenges—the foundation is also pressing federal lawmakers to pass Ellie’s Law to increase sustained funding for the disorder.
