Governor Hochul vows to block Cody Wilson’s 3D-printed gun software

Wilson, the architect of the first 3D-printed firearm, recently unveiled a utility dubbed “Hochulization.” The software aims to circumvent government-mandated detection systems by altering the file hashes of gun blueprints. By modifying these digital signatures, Wilson intends to prevent automated systems from flagging firearm components while maintaining their original mechanical functionality. He plans to apply this technique across his company’s repository of over 200,000 design files and release the project as open-source.

Hochul dismissed the provocation, emphasizing that the state remains committed to curbing the proliferation of unregulated weapons manufactured at home. She framed the conflict as a public safety necessity, arguing that the technology invites a dangerous lack of oversight, including the absence of background checks or mental health screenings for individuals accessing munitions designs. While Wilson continues to challenge regulatory efforts, the governor signaled that her administration is preparing further measures to neutralize his attempts to circumvent existing statutes.
