Former FBI Agent Robin Dreeke Launches MasterClass on Human Trust

Research suggests human intuition in reading others is no more reliable than a coin flip. To combat this, former FBI counterintelligence agent Robin Dreeke is launching a new MasterClass, teaching students to replace snap judgments with a structured, evidence-based system for navigating high-stakes negotiations and professional interactions.

Dreeke spent two decades in the field recruiting sources, a role that required precise psychological assessment under pressure. His new course, "Become the Person Everyone Trusts," focuses on moving away from traditional deception detection toward a method of elicitation. Rather than attempting to influence or persuade, Dreeke advocates for creating an environment where others feel comfortable sharing the truth.

The curriculum centers on the dangers of "emotional hijacking," where personal feelings override objective evidence. Students are taught to pause during critical moments—such as hiring decisions or performance reviews—to distinguish between observation and inference. Key techniques include the "Three Questions" framework and tracking "tempo tells," which involve monitoring shifts in verbal and nonverbal behavior against a person's established baseline.

"Influence is about you; persuasion is about what you want," Dreeke said. "What I teach is elicitation—it is about what they are willing to share." By applying these behavioral analysis disciplines, he argues that professionals can reduce the frequency of costly misreads in both business and personal relationships. The class is now available to subscribers on the MasterClass platform.
