The shift to wind and solar energy, facilitated by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, targets a 65% reduction in market-based scope 2 emissions across the company's optical fibre and cable plants. Beyond the power grid, STL has integrated 100% Green Hydrogen into its glass manufacturing operations, effectively tackling one of the most energy-intensive stages of the production cycle.
STL Shifts Manufacturing to Green Power to Slash Carbon Footprint
From the power grid fueling its Indian plants to the hydrogen powering glass production, STL is overhaulng its manufacturing chain to meet Net-Zero goals. The company confirmed it has transitioned its Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar facilities to 100% renewable energy, marking a sharp pivot toward decarbonized digital infrastructure.

These technical pivots have already yielded measurable results in the company’s product portfolio. The carbon footprint of STL’s G.657.A2 optical fibre—a staple in data centers and telecom networks—has plummeted from 4.7 kg to 0.9 kg of CO2e per fibre kilometre, an 80% reduction. Rahul Puri, CEO of STL’s Optical Networking Business, described the transition as a sequence of connected decisions ranging from energy sourcing to internal corporate mobility policies, which now incentivize employees to adopt electric and hybrid vehicles to lower Scope 3 emissions.
