The deal forces the tech giant to implement rigorous age verification and usage limits, effectively curbing the reach of its recommendation algorithms for younger demographics.
Beyond verification, the agreement fundamentally alters the teen user experience on Meta platforms. Teens will gain the ability to disable personalized feeds, stripping away the influence of recommendation algorithms. Furthermore, the company must suspend push notifications between 10 PM and 7 AM unless parental consent overrides the setting. Daily usage on Meta apps will be capped at two hours, though the company carved out specific exceptions for direct messaging and longform video content.
